Day 16: Repeat Offensive
When you are in competition, the offensive is about possession of the authority and the strategy for success. Offensive is defined as an organized and forceful campaign to achieve something, typically a political or social end. We must understand that as Christians, we are always on the offensive against the enemy. If you are ever defensive, it's because you have not accepted the victory you have been promised by the Father.
But, be encouraged. God knows that our hearts get weary and he does strategic things to keep us walking in understanding that he is with us. Today's Bible study is about a widow. Her story in 1 Kings 17, is not just about God working a miracle. The widow's story show us that God will work an initial miracle, then do the UNTHINKABLE. In 1 Kings 17, the prophet Elijah requests that the woman make him bread with the last of her flour and oil. Her obedience unlocks the abundane of heaven.
Provision was her access to wisdom that God was on her side. But, the Father had more in store for her. Later in the chapter, the woman's son dies. Elijah prays for him and God revives the boy back to life. Even Elijah was confused and ask God why the boy would die. While God doesn't give an answer, the woman's response to her son being risen from the dead gives all the answer we need. After he son came to life, the woman said, "Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you." The woman's faith was solidified because she encounter the miraculous power of God again.
The widow, just like the children of Israel, encountered the hand of God twice for a greater example of His power later. When the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea, the initial miracle showed them the power of God. The unthinkable movement for Joshua across the Jordan, gave them assurance that God was going to fight their battles. In our own lives, God will give us a quick advantage or allow us to have success with plans to reveal Himself even greater in the future. But here's what our call to action has to be: trusting God.
The widow, Israel, and every Believher that confesses Christ has to expect that we will encounter the enemy's tactics. When God shows us His power, the enemy will try to distract us or discourage our faith. For the widow, it was her son's death. For Israel, it was the wilderness. I don't know how the devil is trying to make you doubt the power of God. Just, don't let it work. Remember the way God carried you out as you wait for His mighty hand to move again.
God is about to do a repeat offensive move in your life. He's about to show you again just how strong and might He is. As you encounter the God of the impossible, remember He is the God that keeps moving on your behalf. Our testimonies are powerful like the widow's. Her experience of God set her faith in stone. If your faith is faltering today, ask God to show Himself to you again, recount the ways God has already showed up and trust that you can depend of the Father.
